Bardell v. Pickwick

Bardell v. Pickwick was an 1828 English court case between landlady Mrs. Bardell and author Samuel Pickwick. Mrs. Bardell sued Pickwick for breach of promise, alleging he had promised to marry her. Pickwick argued he had only said he would consider marrying her. The jury found for Mrs. Bardell and awarded damages.
