"Signelil" is a ballad from Cornwall about a maiden who falls in love with a knight. He promises to marry her but later breaks his vow. She is heartbroken and chooses to die rather than be with someone who has betrayed her. Other ballads in the collection tell tales of love, betrayal, and tragedy.
