Quintus Oakes: A Detective Story

Quintus Oakes, a detective, is sent to solve a case of a stolen diamond. He discovers that a woman named Mrs. Stannard is behind it. He pursues her to a hotel, where he gets a confession and retrieves the diamond. He also finds out that Mrs. Stannard is the wife of a man he has been investigating for a different crime.
