Medusa's coil

Medusa's Coil is a short story written by H. P. Lovecraft. It follows protagonist Randolph Carter, who travels to a supernatural place called Ulthar Congress, where he discovers an ancient cult dedicated to a mysterious figure known as Medusa. Carter soon realizes that the cult's power is real and must attempt to break the sinister cycle before it's too late.
