Money—you Harlequin of the great masquerade of life.

You wear the dollar sign as your mask.

It may hide you—yes, for a time,

But when at last grim reality stalks into the midst of the festivities,

The mask is ruthlessly torn away, and then—is seen

The true expression hidden behind it—the cruel visage of discordant greed.

Words are jewels rare—

If need be

You heed me,

But our choosing makes them seem

The reflection of a dream.
