keaway was hearing Elder Min recount the legend of the wolf’s fang.

The wolf’s fang had been passed down from Elder Min’s great-grandfather, a minister in the Ministry of Works during the Qing Dynasty. While on a field trip near a cliff, he heard cries for help from below. After an exhausting effort, he saved a hunter who, before dying, handed him a wolf’s fang. The great-grandfather placed the fang in his pocket, intending to find a place to bury the hunter's body. Suddenly, a pack of wolves appeared. Terrified and seeing no way out, he heard a voice:

"Do not fear! The hunter fell off the cliff while saving a wolf cub. If you entrust the body to the wolves for a proper burial in their sacred valley, you will be safe." Following the advice, he stepped away from the hunter's body. Four strong wolves took the hunter’s remains into the forest. The wolves howled towards the heavens, seemingly bidding farewell, before vanishing as a group.

Sitting down, drenched in sweat, the great-grandfather heard the voice again:

"Human, preserve this fang well. It will enable you to communicate with wolves." The voice faded, and the great-grandfather felt like he had a surreal dream, except the fang remained in his hand. The fang, neither bone nor jade, suddenly developed a fine crack. Ignoring everything else, he stowed the fang and fled the wolves’ territory.

Many legends surrounded the fang’s protective powers. When it reached Elder Min’s hands, curiosity led him to test its composition, revealing it as just an ordinary fossilized wolf’s fang. Whether it had protective powers remained unknown, but the great-grandfather’s survival among wolves with its aid was true.

“Grandpa, tell us another adventure story from your geological work!” Liu Xiaoyan pleaded, holding his hand.

“Yes, Grandpa! Working in geology is like being an explorer, going to uncharted places. Surely, you have many thrilling stories to share,” Fu Le added eagerly. Without hesitation, Elder Min recounted his many experiences.

In scenic spots, instead of admiring the scenery, they engaged in storytelling. This curiosity drew more visitors into their storytelling circle. Unbothered, Elder Min vividly shared his adventures, receiving rounds of applause.

Liu Xiaoyan and Fu Le joined in cheerfully, even whistling to liven the atmosphere, causing Elder Min to burst into laughter. His happiness, however, made the guards increasingly tense, using every high-tech means available to ensure his safety.

After three days of stories, the two children finally returned to school.

Chapter 17: Industrial Development
