Elw. I will not be excus'd by Percy's crime;

Dou. Yet he can only die—but death for honour!

Per. Enough of words. Thou know'st I hate thee, Douglas;

Elw. [kneels] Hold, Douglas, hold!—not for myself I kneel,

Per. Finish the bloody work.

Dou. Then take thy wish.

Per. Why dost thou start?

Dou. Her scarf upon his breast!

Per. [ironically to the Knights] Hear you, his friends!

Dou. [throwing away his dagger]

Elw. It blazes brighter!

Per. This action has restor'd thee to thy rank,

Dou. Thy joy will be as short as 'tis insulting.

[to Elwina.

Per. Now thou'rt a noble foe,

Elw. Stay, Percy, stay,

Dou. Turn, madam, and address those vows to me,

[she is borne in.

Per. Let our deaths suffice,

Dou. Provoke my rage no farther.—I have kindled
