Cato. Fathers, we once again are met in council;

Sem. Gods! can a Roman senate long debate

Cato. Let not a torrent of impetuous zeal

Luc. My thoughts, I must confess, are turn'd on peace.

Cato. Let us appear nor rash nor diffident;

Cato. By your permission, fathers—bid him enter.

Dec. Cæsar sends health to Cato—

Cato. Could he send it

Dec. My business is with Cato. Cæsar sees

Cato. My life is grafted on the fate of Rome.

Dec. Rome and her senators submit to Cæsar;

Cato. These very reasons thou hast urged forbid it.

Dec. Cato, I've orders to expostulate

Cato. No more;

Dec. Cæsar is well acquainted with your virtues,

Cato. Bid him disband his legions,
