Bloodthirsty Divinity
to a meditation chamber. Recalling Chen Fei’s words that cultivation here required exiting every three years, I also set my sights on a chamber.

Placing my jade token in a slot, the heavy stone door shut like a guillotine, and beads in the wall illuminated. Ignoring them, I retrieved the divine sense manual, thinking it was time to properly train my divine sense.

Opening to the first page, its contents matched my master’s teachings: those with divine sense could cause great upheavals. Still, beginners were warned against practicing, risking madness or death. It was daunting.

Flipping to the second page, the real content began. Using divine sense, I deciphered its methods.

“Divine sense is infinitely small, hence Buddha said, ‘Eight million beings in a cup of water.’ It’s infinitely large, hence ‘Three thousand great worlds.’ It refers to the eight senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, mind, manas, alaya). The manual ended abruptly with a “To be continued…” leaving me exasperated.

“Which darn genius wrote this?” I cursed, left hanging without a complete guide.

Frustrated, I decided to let it go. I remembered the three items my master had left me, one of which was a space ring. Taking it out, it seemed quite ordinary. "For someone as powerful as my master, it’s impossible for this ring to be so unremarkable," I thought.

But how should I use my divine sense to explore it? I tried pricking my finger and dripping a drop of blood on it, but the blood just evaporated with a flash of light. Useless.

Pondering hard, I decided to probe it with my divine sense. I spent a good half-hour without finding anything. Suddenly, cold sweat broke out as the ring began to absorb my divine sense.

Panicking, I tried to retract my divine sense, but I couldn't control the process. It was like a steady stream being siphoned into the ring. Wiping my sweat nervously, I thought, "How long will this go on? If this continues, I might end up brain-dead or worse. How will I survive?"

Despite my best efforts, the ring kept consuming my divine sense, relentlessly circling me as it did. My
